What would Christmas be without the right atmosphere? Exactly. It is time to decorate. Nothing new there. And just like every year, our old friend the Christmas tree finds its way into our living rooms. That is just how Christmas works. Right?

Ho Ho How about Getting a Christmas Tree?

A real Nordmann fir for Christmas, that would be great! Around 30 million fir trees are sold in Germany every year. In 2020, ten per cent of all buyers even got their Christmas tree online. Excellent quality and lush green, soft branches: that is exactly what we want. And that lovely fir scent! Christmas cheer is in the air.

However, no matter how much Christmas spirit a real tree brings, at least for a little while, it only has a short »lifespan«. And this is where the discussion starts. Does it have to be a real Christmas tree? Or are there more sustainable alternatives?

Ho Ho Holy Night

Relax, we have already done the research for you. Here are several options you can choose from:

  • The fake real tree – the Keinachtsbaum is the perfect choice for those who do not want to miss out on the scent of the forest
  • Fair trade trees, for example toom’s Fair Trees
  • Rental trees
  • The wood or paper version – check out tree4ever and ROOM IN A BOX
  • Cut down your own Christmas tree at regional sales points. This way, only as much as necessary is chopped down. The remaining fir trees are left standing and do not end up in landfill sites.

Alternatively, you can just get actively creative:

Ho Ho Hoping for a Highly Modern Christmas Season

We are dreaming of a green Christmas – and it is only really sustainable when it is digital. So how about a virtual Christmas tree that even fulfils wishes?

With their digital wish tree, the cloud-based system, IoT and app development company INCLOUD and the German football club Hamburger SV fulfilled over 900 children’s wishes in 2020. The cloud made it possible.

During the 2020 Christmas season, Duha e.V., a social services association, also collected donations this way to introduce children and young people with disabilities to the digital world, giving them a new opportunity to participate in society.

Alternatively, you can have a minimalist Christmas tree or use an app to get your own Christmas tree at home. With the tree configurator »O Tannenbaum O Tannenbaum«, you can design your own virtual fir tree and even project it into reality using a camera.

The choice of tree will play a major role in the future and will be crucial in ensuring many more »merry« Christmas evenings. Getting the right information and choosing a sustainable option or even supporting digital Christmas projects such as a wish tree is a first step in the right direction.

What is in your living room this year? Under the hashtag #ZeigthereureBäume, we will be looking and marvelling at Christmas trees, sharing them on the dotSource Instagram stories from the 24th to the 26th of December. For the digital Christmas feeling 😉 Of course, we also wish you peaceful holidays and moments of joy with your loved ones in the analogue world. Happy decorating, happy cuddling, happy feasting and a happy new year! Your Handelskraft and dotSource team 🎄⛄❤🎉
